The Mudumalai National Park is the first wildlife sanctuary in Southern India in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and the name Mudumalai means ‘the ancient hill range’. Jungle Safari, being the central attraction, is the most opted activity by the tourists in the Mudumalai National Park. Private vehicles are not allowed inside the tiger reserve and you have to avail the safaris arranged by the forest department of Tamil Nadu. Apart from jeep safaris, bus and camper safaris are also available. In order to avail the type of safari of your choice it's better to do your Mudumalai National Park Booking in advance.
The forest offers you to witness the grandeur of the vast stretch of wilderness commonly ranging from Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Barking Deer, Sambar Deer, Langurs, Sloth Bear, Indian Gaur, Asian Elephant, and Bengal Tiger And Leopard if you are lucky enough. Along with them your sight will also cover 277 species of birds and many more. That's not all. Apart from the jeep/bus/camper safari there are several other activities involved to give you a thrill-filled experience, such as elephant safari, elephant camps, bathing the baby elephants at the elephant camps, bird watching, forest treks and sightseeings at the nearby spots like Pykara lake, Kallakaty falls, Moyar river, and so on.
Considering the safety of the tourists, the forest department authorities do not encourage people to walk or roam around inside the forest premises. However, you can contact the travel planners who will safely take you through the forest areas for well-guided trekking trails, mountain hikings and other such activities. So pull up socks and set your feet forward to explore the less explored areas of the Mudumalai National Park.
