Mudumalai Fauna

Mudumalai National Park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Here we list some of the prominent wildlife species found in this most reputed national park of south India. Spread over 321 square kilometer in the Nilgiri Mountains in Tamil Nadu and shares its boundaries with neighboring states like Kerala and Karnatka.

  • Sloth Bear: Sloth Bears, which are nocturnal animals, can be spotted in Mudumalai National Park during the day in search of food.
  • Wild Dog: Wild Dogs, also known as Dholes, are highly social animals that can be seen in packs in the park.
  • Sambar Deer: The Park has a large population of Sambar Deer, which are the largest deer species found in India.
  • Barking Deer: Barking Deer, also known as Muntjacs, are small deer species found in the park.
  • Mouse Deer: Mouse Deer, also known as Chevrotains, are the smallest hoofed mammals in the world, and they can be found in Mudumalai National Park.
  • Langurs: Two species of langurs, the Gray Langur and the Bonnet Macaque, are commonly found in the park.
